Lamamra denounces Moroccan verbal escalation

Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, described on Thursday in Algiers the verbal escalation of Morocco with regard to Algeria, following a recent incident at the border between the two countries, as "bad strategy of tension".

"The view of Algeria (on the incident) was said and we stick to that. The rest is a bad strategy of escalation, poor strategy of tension, a headlong rush that serves neither the interests of neighborhood nor the interests of any other country," the minister said on the sideline of his meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs of Senegal, Ndiaye Mankeur.

"I would just say that Algeria has had its say on this issue and I reiterate this position. Algeria is not responsible for injuries that were inflicted on a person on the Moroccan side of the border," Lamamra said in response to reporters' questions on the subject.

Algeria had already dismissed the "misleading" presentation by the Moroccan side of the reaction of the Algerian border guards, issues of provocation by a group of Moroccan smugglers, as well as its political and media "abusive" exploitation on October 18.
