Sahrawi prisoners at risk
” It is unfair that the international community remains indifferent to the practices of the Moroccan government arrests of Saharawi civilians defenseless in an international zone under UN auspices and present them to military courts for campaigning for the values and legitimate rights under the Charter and UN resolutions, “said President SADR. These practices, said Mohammed Abdelaziz, indicate a “flagrant disregard (by the Moroccan authorities) of international law and international humanitarian law”, hence the “need” to impose sanctions and pressures to release all Saharawi political detainees, to shed light on the fate of more than 651 Saharawi disappeared, stop the massive plunder of natural resources and destroy the military wall that divides the Western Sahara by millions of landmines.
The Saharawi president also condemned the detention conditions in Moroccan prisons deteriorating more and practices Moroccan occupation authorities against civilians and activists for human rights, up to their presentation before military courts for their pacifist action. He recalled in his message, the events of Gdeim Izik a year ago, Dakhla in February and September and the “brutal repression” committed daily by the occupation authorities against the Moroccan Saharawi civilians in Laayoune, Smara, Boujdour and other cities in the Saharawi occupied territories and southern Morocco.
SADR president also reiterated his call for expanding the powers of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) for the protection and monitoring of the situation of human rights in Western Sahara.
