Saharawi activist tours Italy to speak about human rights violation in Western Sahara

Rome, Nov 19, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi activist, Sultana Jaya, is currently touring Italy to give her testimonies on the human rights abuses in Western Sahara perpetrated by Morocco, Polisario Representation in Rome informed.

The activist has met elected and representatives of NGOs supporting the Saharawi people in Torcana and other cities. She was also received by Mr. Andrea Barducci, president of the Florence County.

Following the meeting with the Saharawi activist, Mr. Barducci underlined that Sultana Jaya “has always been at the forefront of the struggle of her people against the Moroccan occupation regime as well as for self-determination and for the respect of human rights in Western Sahara.”

He added that she has repeatedly been subjugated to violent physical practices by Moroccan occupation forces, until she lost one of her eyes.

On other hand, president of the Florence County announced an intention to organize a global event during the first semester on the subject of human rights, in memory of those who are still subjecting to illegal occupation, physical torture and violence indicating to the Saharawi people. (SPS)
