President of Republic receives Chairman of Maghreb Commission in European Parliament

Shaheed El Hafed (Refugee camps), November 8, 2011 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, received Monday the Chairman of the Maghreb Commission in the European Parliament, Mr. Pier Antonio Panzeri, at the presidential headquarters.

During the meeting, the President of the Republic briefed his guest on the latest developments concerning the question of Western Sahara, especially the suffering of the Saharawi people under occupation as well as in exile and the obstacles encountering the UN peace plan.

The visit aims to see the reality of the Sahrawi refugees and listen to the views of the Polisario Front on social, economic and political issues related to the conflict in Western Sahara.

In a speech during a rally organized Monday in the Wilaya of El Aaiun, Sahrawi refugee camps, Mr Panzeri, called on the European Union to intervene to help to find a solution to the conflict, raise awareness about human rights, address the issue of natural resources of the Saharawi people and support the Sahrawi refugees.

The Chairman of the Maghreb Commission in the European Parliament condemned the terrorist act which resulted in the kidnapping of the three Europeans aid workers in the Sahrawi refugee camps, stressing that resolving the Sahrawi question quickly is a key factor in encountering terrorism and establishing security and stability in the region.
