Italian NGOs and Municipalities condemns the abduction of European aid workers

Rome, Nov 5, 2011 (SPS) - Italian NGOs and Municipalities have condemned the kidnapping of three European cooperators in the humanitarian field by a terrorist group in the Saharawi refugee camps, near Tindouf, as reported Thursday in Rome.

The Local Coordination of Solidarity with the Saharawi people in the Municipality of Sesto San Giovanni (Milan) expressed its strong condemnation to the terrorist attack which resulted in the abduction of 3 cooperators on the humanitarian field in the Saharawi refugee camps.

The Coordination expressed solidarity with families of the abducted cooperators, adding that this criminal act “aims to jeopardize the solidarity action with people have lived in refugee camp since 36 years.”

It also added that such attack proves that there is no relation between the Polisario Front and all forms of terrorism, reiterating its support to the Saharawi people in its struggle for self-determination.

The most prominent NGO of Emily Roman’s Italian region indicated “the Italian government must work with all available possibilities to liberate the European hostages, who were abducted on October 23, 2011.

With regard to the Italian abducted cooperator, the NGO recalled that she was operating a project sponsored by Ravin city (Emily Roman), where she demonstrated her human and professional abilities as well as her dedication which allowed completing the project on time in order to improve the living conditions in the Saharawi refugee camps.

“It is important in this circumstance to take care and express solidarity with the abducted, who stood beside the Saharawi people which have wage peaceful struggle since 30 years for recognizing its right of self-determination,” it recalled. (SPS)
