Sahrawi President, Mohammed Abdelaziz, vowed on Saturday to work on liberating the three Western aid workers who were kidnapped in refugee camp in Tindouf, south west of Algeria, on 22 October.

At the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference on the Right of Peoples to Resistance: The Case of Sahrawi People, being held in Algiers, Mr Abdelaziz said the Republic of Western Sahara is committed to counterterrorism treaty of the African Union, and yet is due to work on freeing the aid workers as soon as possible.”

1200 participants representing 30 countries attended the conference.

He further avoided giving further details on the circumstances of the kidnapping of the three aid workers, two Spanish and an Italian, saying “there are no new elements in this issue.”

Sahrawi President further called on the international community to show more solidarity with the Sahrawi people “who has been enduring state terrorism of Morocco since 1975, and now we are suffering a new face of terrorism.”

Mr Abdelaziz slammed the pro Morocco position of France vis-à-vis the Sahrawi cause, saying “Paris contradicts the reputation of France as the cradle of democracy when it hampers the issuing of a UN resolution that guarantees the protection of human rights in the occupied Sahrawi territories.” President Abdelaziz made reference to the objection of France to endorse the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) with the prerogative to monitor the situation of human rights in the occupied part of the Western Sahara.
