Abduction of humanitarian cooperators: NGOs determined not to leave Sahrawi refugee camps

Algiers, Oct 31, 2011 (SPS) - Representatives of institutions, associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of different countries participating in the second International Conference of Algiers on the People’s right to resistance: case of the Sahrawi people reasserted Sunday their determination to stay in the Sahrawi refugee camps and to continue supporting the Saharawi refugees despite the kidnapping of the three humanitarian aid workers.

The NGOs confirmed, during the second day of the Conference, that it is a matter of resistance in face of an illegal occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco.

In his intervention during the 2 day, the President of the Italian National Association of Solidarity with the Saharawi people (ANSP), Mr. Fabio Ranieri, underlined that the NGOs which are struggling along with the Saharawi people “will not bow to the threats.”

“Terrorism does not scare us,” said Mr. Ranieri, mentioning in this regard that his country (Italy) had fought Fascism, calling on the Saharawis to continue struggling against injustice.

In relevant context, the President of the Spanish Parliamentary Group “Peace and Freedom to the Saharawi People”, Mr. Jesus Loza, denounced the recent repression in occupied cities of Dakhla, Smara and El Aaiun as well as the kidnapping of the three European hostages.

He noted in this regard that the Moroccan allegations aiming to mingle between the Saharawis struggle for their legitimate rights and terrorism “are baseless.” (SPS)
