By Corinne Moncel Past twenty years, the continent, from north to south, from west to east, more immune to drug use. It is far from the days when drug use involving only a ritual use: some iboga, a plant psychotropic potions witches in Equatorial Africa, to come into contact with the ancestors, a few leaves hallucinogenic datura, Sahel-Saharan Africa, to heal, stimulate or trance. Africa in the twenty-first century, change of scenery: it use to all floors. In children or soldiers living on the streets. Young people in need of work and future. A Youm Kippur in the Maghreb?

In Rome, Abdelkader Omar, the Prime Minister of the SADR (Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, a founding member of the AU, already recognized by some 80 States), in turn, warned last Sunday about the risks a conflagration in the region, because of the stubbornness of Morocco to Stop solution Referendum in Western Sahara. “The Sahrawi people and especially youth, are now exasperated and frustrated by the fact that the settlement of their sacred issue has stalled because of procrastination and stubbornness of Morocco,” he declared at the national agency APS.    “Therefore, it is feared that this situation will lead to the irreparable which would certainly not likely to have negative consequences for the stability and security in the Mediterranean region as a whole,” he added in a implacable logic. Never has so much our lives have been influenced by the waves of new drained by what we call now, the information technology and communication (ICT). Newspapers, televisions, radios, mobile phones, computers: all spoof an inextricable tirelessly deluge of information. Internet, Tweeter, Facebook, Google, Youtube and other creatures of cyberspace have radically changed the way we communicate and inform us. Everything is scrutinized, reviewed, analyzed and disseminated in real time. But there remains one constant that has not been affected by this technology boom: the lies, propaganda and media manipulation are still there, more present than ever, as these viruses become more sophisticated, so they are always more powerful than software that is supposed to protect us. The media lies (a term so dear to Michel Collon) proliferated as never befo...

Independence for Western Sahara ”outstanding”: Tanzania

Image
Western Sahara remains the only part of Africa which has not gained independence, according to the President of Tanzania. Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony in north-west Africa, is now disputed by Morocco which claims it and the Polisario Front liberation movement which wants independence. President Jakaya Kikwete told the UN General Assembly on Thursday that in the 50 years of its membership of the United Nations, Tanzania has contributed to the decolonization of Africa and other parts of the world. He said his country gave sanctuary and support to almost all liberation movements of Southern Africa. “It is heart-warming indeed, to see our efforts, sacrifices and contributions having been rewarded so handsomely with the independence of all African countries and apartheid having been dismantled in South Africa. Only Western Sahara remains outstanding. I hope the United Nations will expedite the process so that people of Saharawi can determine their future pea...
